People involved in shooting are being asked to take part in a research project to help establish the significance of all shooting disciplines to the economy, environment and social well-being in the UK.

The research known as the Value of Shooting, which is being supported by more than 20 shooting and countryside organisations, will update and expand upon previous studies published in 2006 and 2014. BASC is the lead partner for the project, representing all project partners and supporters.

The research covers all forms of shooting, from live quarry to target shooting and requires responses from shoots, shooters and those who take part in shooting in some way but don’t shoot (e.g. beaters, pickers-up, volunteers).

This is a scientific research project that is being run in stages. Invitations to participate in the online survey will be sent by the organisations involved to their members in the coming weeks. A wider, public link will be made available later in the survey process.

A spokesperson for the organisations involved said: “This piece of research will help us build a picture of the economic, environmental and social value of shooting in the UK. The aim of the survey is to obtain independent and robust facts and figures that underpin the importance of shooting.

“The previous two reports proved indispensable to showcasing and defending shooting’s worth and it is now time to revisit and update this research.

“Once you receive an email from your organisation inviting you to participate, we would urge you to take the time to respond and add your voice to the future of shooting.”

We are currently in the first stage of the research, meaning that the survey is not yet open to the wider shooting community as emails are first being sent to members. Please check back after 27th September 2021 if you:

Are a member of one or more of the organsiations but have not received a survey invitation by 27th September, or:
Are not a member of any of the organisations and are interested in taking part in the research
